Impressions of Detmold
Detmold still has an original and intact old town with more than 500 historical monuments of different ages. We recommend our interesting guided tour of the town to you, then you will understand why this town, founded around 1260, is still described as "the beautiful town".
Everywhere you go in Detmold, there are features to see. Even a shopping trip has atmosphere and there are lots of variety on offer.
That is why "shopping and nattering in the beautiful town" is fun. Our arts and cultural spectrum is also varied, with museums, theatre, cabaret and the Music Academy, for instance. The "Detmold Summer Theatre" from May to October, "Detmold Special" from autumn through to spring, the Palace Garden Festival, the art market und the many seasonal town festivals are welcome activities for visitors and the people of detmold alike.
Plenty of sport and leisure activities, from angling to gliding, are available as well. For your fitness and wellness wishes there are a leisure pool, several open-air swimming pools and saunas at your disposal - as well as the officially registered health resorts of Berlebeck and Diestelbruch and the Kneipp cure centre at Hiddesen.
Naturally enough, our gastronomic experience also comes under our idea of feeling good. Elegant restaurants, good, plain eating houses, as well as ethnic pubs invite you to an Epicurean foray. Have a taste of "Lippischer Pickert, Wurstebrei, Puttappel, Lippischer liver sausage" .. Ice-cream cafés, beer gardens and pavement cafés are popular from spring to autumn in Detmold. A stroll through our bar scene is well worthwhile too.
Detmold is surrounded by a charming landscape with gentle hills and valleys. Rural idylls and holidays on the farm are only a stones throw away. We are in the fortunate position to take you on many hiking trails and footpaths through the Teutoburg forest. The 230 km long cycle path network and many long-distance cycle paths that pass through Detmold are ideal for cyclists.
